Breaking barriers,Shattering norms
In days of yore, the gendered score
Was fixed, unchanging, forevermore
Women’s roles were set in stone
Complex words they were unknown
But as the years began to pass
The status quo began to amass
Women’s lives no longer so plain
Complex words they could now explain
No longer simply wives and mothers
Complex words they uttered, like no others
Scientists, writers, leaders too
Complex words were what they knew
Breaking barriers, shattering norms
Complex words now their platforms
Challenging the status quo
Complex words their weapon to show
Words like “intersectionality”
A complex concept, yet with clarity
Women of all races, shapes, and sizes
Complex words, they mobilize
“Representation” and “diversity”
Complex words that hold the key
To equal opportunity
For all women, no matter their degree
“Empowerment” and “self-care”
Complex words, but with them they dare
To live their lives on their own terms
Complex words, now their affirmations and germs
So let us celebrate these complex words
And the women who make them heard
For they have fought and broken through
To a new world, complex and true.
